When it comes to your living room, cosy is a must. It’s the one space in the house where the entire family gather to relax, enjoy some TV, have some conservations and much more. Of all the rooms in the home, this is the most important.
So, how do you design it so that everyone is comfortable and it meets practical requirements? Here are some quick and easy changes to make when you want to update your living space.
Switch to Spring Colours
We’re finally out of the dark and dreary months, and it’s time to light up our rooms to go with the Spring and Summer months.
There are some wonderful pastel colour paints available right now and some ideal bright, patterned wallpapers to pair with them.
If you want to go the whole hog, you can even replace sofas, cushions and other accessories to match the colour scheme you’ve chosen.
Do Use Rugs
Modern rugs can really add character to the room. A bright abstract or damask rug will catch the eye of any visitor to the home and the quality of the rug will do the rest of your work justice.
Choosing the size will be dependent on the size and style of the room. Many people are now choosing rugs that fill the room entirely and fit snuggly under the furniture. However, that should be a personal preference.
Up Scale Wooden Furniture
It’s surprising what a lick of paint can do for an old table, chair or cupboard. The shabby chic style is still very much in fashion and it doesn’t take a lot of effort.
However, if you do plan on up-scaling some of the furniture, it can be time consuming, so put some time aside to get it done properly. A distressed ivory colour will sit nicely in any Spring time room.
They may not smell as nice as the real thing, but sure last longer. It’s so much easier to find a beautiful display of artificial flowers that will fit in with your new room perfectly. You won’t have to worry about maintaining them.
Who has time to keep plants alive, right? They’re always there to brighten up the room when you get surprise visits from the relatives. There really aren’t many down sides to artificial flowers.
Have you still got that cheap photo frame that your aunt gifted you with on your wedding day ten years ago? We’re all guilty of keeping them around and soon they become part of the furniture. Even if they have sentimental value, it doesn’t mean you have to keep them on display forever. You may be surprised by how updating your photo frames will improve the entire space.
Change is good for the mind and body so you could be shocked at how your outlook changes with your living room. It’s a positive move and there are plenty of ways you can make a room more your own. Try it – it’s fun!
