Easy focaccia recipe

250g bread flour
160ml lukewarm water
4g active yeast
Salt
Knob of butter
2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 red onion
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar

Add the yeast and salt to the flour and stir in the water, mix well. Put olive oil on your hands and kneed the dough for 10 minutes.
Cover with damp tea towel and leave in a warm place until doubled in size (approx 30 mins).

Meanwhile slice the onion and add 1 tbsp oil and butter to frying pan and fry the onion until soft, add vinegar and simmer until reduced. Leave to cool.

When dough is doubled in size fit into a square dish (approx 15x20cm). Sprinkle the onion on top and the rest of the oil. Cover in cling film. Leave in warm place for 10 mins.

Remove cling film.

Cook at 200 degrees C for 20-30 mins.
I put some butter on top to melt over it, you could make this garlic butter and make your focaccia garlicky.

So easy and so yummy!

  1. this looks easy and tasty! – trying to lay off the bread so when we have it we won’t to make it count!

  2. Looks fairly straightforward. If I am in a great rush I have found a two ingredient bread – yogurt and flour. Its great for a pizza dough, naan bread, dipping bread…. I add herbs and a little flavoured oil depending on its use and you can use any type of flour. Try it!
