Men, as a general rule, are not as into clothing as women. My husband certainly doesn’t think about it any more than does his shirt match his trousers.
Something that men should also be asking is – what does this colour say about me?
Research has shown that the colour of a man’s shirt can make you see them in a certain way, if you’re looking to come across as powerful; choose red. If you want to show confidence, always opt for black. We have teamed up with Charles Tyrwhitt, experts in gentlemen’s fashion and retailers of men’s formal shirts, to find out which colours women prefer on men.
Choosing the right colour
Here are what the following colours will say about you:
Obviously associated with romance, love and passion. It is thought that the attraction to red comes from our roots – many animals are attracted to the opposite sex if they are red.
Red is also a colour which boosts confidence and shows power and a strong personality.
The easiest colour to wear, goes with everything. Similar to red, black can be perceived as the colour of self-assurance. Other comments included that the colour black made the wearer appear more intelligent and sexy – perfect for a first date!
Be careful not to pair it with black everything tho, monochrome from head to toe is very boring.
A white shirt is a nice and classic look: white t-shirt and jeans combo is definitely an attractive look for a man.
Ones to avoid
There are also some colours to avoid when it comes to choosing a shirt: orange and brown are perceived as quite boring, drab colours although a bright orange shirt would be funky for a sunny day.
Pink is another colour which didn’t score well.
When choosing a coloured shirt consider the following tips too:
Match your shirt to your eye colour,
Avoid wearing dark colours if you have a fair complexion, this can really draw your skin tone out and make you appear paler,
If you have dark hair, opt for bright colours as these are likely to complement you more,
Red definitely came out as most attractive. This is a global opinion so wherever in the world you go wearing a red shirt, expect to get a similar reception.
