Whether you are a working parent or a busy stay-at-home mum, it can be a real challenge to stay healthy when your life revolves around others and the last thing on your mind is your health. But don’t neglect this important treasure in your life and take some steps to stay healthy also when you are busy. Here is how:
Schedule regular breaks
When we are busy we may be tempted to constantly work, with not many dedicated breaks and we may even skip meals because of our busyness but try not to do that!
When you are working in an office, breaks are vital, not only for clearing your mind and for better productivity but also for better health – sitting for prolonged periods of time is not recommended as it can really impact your health negatively. So do try and go for a quick walk during your lunchtime and try to get up every hour to stretch and maybe stand for a while instead of sitting.
If you are a stay-at-home mum, it’s much easier to move as you have to deal with housework and looking after children but all stay-at-home mums need a break too so try and get your partner or a friend to help while you relax.
Plan meals ahead
Eating healthy is much easier when you plan in advance. The best is to plan all your meals at the weekend and also do the necessary shopping then. Write everything down, from the meals you are planning to eat to the ingredients you need to buy.
When you are thoroughly prepared, it will be easy for you to follow a healthy diet, also on hectic days.
Just remember, meal preparation and cooking don’t have to be time-consuming. For lunch you could have things like cold pasta salad, chicken or prawn salad or a low-fat cheese sandwich.
Take time for yourself
Self-care is a big thing now and for the right reason. Stress levels can rise quite quickly when people don’t take time for themselves and before they know it their health is affected.
So it’s really important to take some time for yourself every day so that you relax, de-stress and reflect on life. This could be something as simple as reading a book for half an hour or going for a walk. Of course, you could always take time for something more luxurious such as massage or facial. Just do something that you enjoy and love.
Don’t forget your vitamins!
When we are busy, it’s all too easy to neglect our diet and eat fast, convenient food but don’t make this a habit. With meal planning eating healthy will be easier but understandably there will still be days when, for some reason, you cannot follow your meal plan and this is when supplements and quick fixes come handy.
