Change Your Light Bulbs

Using light bulbs that are energy efficient, like these LED ones https://www.brightlightz.co.uk/led-spotlights, is a great way to save money at home. They use a lot less power than their counterparts, but they don’t compromise on the quality of the light that they give out. LED lights are also long lasting. So if you currently have halogen lights at home, you’ll have noticed just how often you have to change them. So LED lights will alleviate that issue too. Saving you money in the long run in two ways!

Wash Laundry on Cold

In summer, if you have to heat up your whole boiler for a short amount of time, such as doing a load of laundry, it is a lot of effort. It will use up a lot more money than if you just did the washing on a cold wash. There are plenty of detergents that will wash effectively at cold temperatures, so make sure that you look out for them. Then where you can, dry your washing outside to save the cost of using a tumble dryer. Though in the UK, we know that this isn’t always possible.

Layer Up

In summer it isn’t going to too much of an issue. But when it gets cooler, even just on an evening, don’t immediately reach to turn the heating on. If you’re sat in shorts and a top, you’ll know why you’re feeling a little chilly! Reach for layers, rather than just the heating, in order to save yourself money, and to also be kinder to the environment.

Switch Energy Providers

If you have been with the same energy provider for a while, then it is a good idea to reassess what they are offering you. Loyalty gets you nowhere when it comes to energy providers. So check your usage and how much you are paying. You could use a comparison tool, like https://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/ to check what you could be paying with another provider. It is well worth the time looking into it as you could save yourself quite a bit.
